‘The Royal Marsden Hospital Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures is an excellent tool to enable nurses to access the latest research relevant to practice quickly and easily from a source they can trust. For many nurses it has become a defining text.’
Christine Beasley, Chief Nursing Officer, Department of Health
‘I was delighted to be asked to review this wonderful resource. At the outset I must begin by congratulating the Editors and all those involved for the production and presentation of this ‘must have’ text now in its 7th Edition. Just glancing at the list of contributors, all experts in their field of clinical practice it is immediately evident that this is a resource that all nurses would want access to, so as to ensure the care they give is of the highest standard.
The manual is beautifully presented and it is well worth spending a short time reading the introduction and guidance for use which explains clearly how the reader can make best use of the wealth of information provided. On reviewing, I felt the manual had a number of strengths but two for me were absolutely key. Firstly, despite its size the manual can be a quick reference guide for those needing to refresh their memory of a particular procedure, skills requirement and equipment. Secondly and perhaps most significantly, the incorporation of graded evidence makes this so much more than simply a manual of procedures, far from it. The detailed content offers the reader the opportunity to be better versed and more confident in the knowledge base guiding the delivery of patient care. The comprehensiveness of the manual reflects the wide-ranging and ever-increasing knowledge, skills and expertise required by nurses, whilst importantly the manual continues to address in detail nursing care that remain fundamentally important to patients such as personal hygiene and, safety and comfort in an excellent chapter on positioning.
It has been both a pleasure and education reviewing the 7th Edition of the Royal Marsden Hospital Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures, I recommend it highly to all nurses working in clinical practice and urge healthcare providers to ensure their staff have access to it.’
